3rd party hardware video games
Well now, let me tell ya somethin’ about these here “3rd party hardware video games”. I ain’t no fancy expert or nothin’, but I reckon I can explain it so even my old dog, Buster, could understand. You see, it’s like this…
What are these “3rd party” thingamajigs?
You got your big fellas, like Sony and that Microsoft fella. They make them PlayStations and Xboxes, right? They got their own folks makin’ games just for them boxes. That’s what they call “first-party”. But then you got these other companies, not owned by the big fellas, makin’ games and stuff that work on them PlayStations and Xboxes. Them’s the “3rd party” fellas.
Think of it like this: you got your own garden where you grow your own tomatoes. That’s like the big fellas and their first-party games. But then you go to the market and buy some corn from another farmer. That corn, well, that’s like the 3rd party stuff.
Why do we need them 3rd party fellas?

Well, imagine if you only had them tomatoes from your garden. Might get a bit borin’ after a while, right? These 3rd party fellas, they bring all sorts of different games and gizmos. Some of them games are real popular, like that GTA V and that Call of Duty. Everybody and their grandma seems to be playin’ them.
- They make games for all sorts of boxes, not just one.
- They come up with all sorts of new ideas and gadgets.
- They give you more choices than just what the big fellas make.
Heck, some of ’em even make whole new boxes just to play old games, like that Nintendo 64. I hear tell there’s a company called “Analogue” makin’ one of them now. Keeps them old games alive, I reckon.
What kind of hardware are we talkin’ about?
It ain’t just games, you know. You got all sorts of contraptions. Them headphones for hearin’ the game better, them fancy controllers, and even them VR headsets. I saw one fella wearin’ one of them headsets once, looked like he was fightin’ off a swarm of bees, flailin’ his arms all over the place.
I heard tell that Meta fella, the one who makes them Facebooks and such, is lettin’ other companies use their special stuff for makin’ them VR headsets. That means more choices for us folks, I guess.
And what about them old games?
Some folks are real keen on playin’ them old games, you know. Like that Spacewar! game. Some fellas went and made it work on newfangled machines. That’s pretty clever, I reckon. Takes a lot of work to make them old things work again.
So, what’s the big deal?

Well, it’s like this. These 3rd party fellas keep things interesting. They give us more choices and sometimes they even come up with better ideas than the big fellas. It’s all about havin’ more fun, ain’t it? And from what I hear, even Microsoft is thinkin’ about just makin’ games for everybody instead of just for their own box. Imagine that!
So, next time you’re playin’ one of them games, take a gander at who made it. If it ain’t Sony or Microsoft or one of them big fellas, then it’s probably one of these 3rd party fellas. And that ain’t a bad thing, no sirree.
It’s like havin’ more cooks in the kitchen. Sure, sometimes it gets a bit messy, but you end up with a whole lot more to eat.
